An Update from Canada Post

A message from Rod Hart, Chief Customer and Marketing Officer

I’m very pleased to share some important updates for your business, as we turn the page on a prolonged period of instability and uncertainty.

We understand the challenges you’ve faced when we could not serve your business the way we needed to. We are committed to earning not only your business, but more importantly, your trust.

Providing long awaited stability

Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) have signed new collective agreements, bringing the bargaining process to a close. The new collective agreements for the Urban and RSMC bargaining units remain in place until January 31, 2029.

As part of the ratification process, CUPW-represented employees recently voted to accept the tentative agreements reached by the parties. The results provided by CUPW showed 89.4% of Urban votes and 86.6% of RSMC votes were in favour of the agreements.

The agreements recognize that Canada Post needs to change. Having these new agreements in place is critical as we move ahead with a multi-year transformation to return to financial sustainability, better meet the modern needs of the country, and provide certainty for you and your customers for the next three peak seasons.

Our transformation continues

Last week we announced that Canada Post is expanding community mailbox conversions to additional communities in 2027. We will be reaching out to 37 communities as we prepare to convert 485,000 addresses to community mailboxes in 2027. You can find a list of the postal codes scheduled for conversion to date on Canada Post’s transformation website.

Nearly three quarters of Canadian addresses already receive mail and parcels through some form of secure, centralized delivery such as community mailboxes, apartment lobby boxes and post office boxes.

Converting additional addresses to community mailboxes will increase security by putting nearly all mail and parcels delivered by Canada Post under lock and key. This will help manage growing concerns about package theft, providing additional peace of mind for both businesses and customers.

More than 80% of parcels delivered by Canada Post fit into a community mailbox’s individual compartment or a dedicated parcel compartment. Parcels that don’t fit or that require a signature are delivered to the door or held for pickup at a nearby post office.

Doubling down on service

We understand that when it comes to both IT and delivery, performance, stability and reliability are critical to the success of your business. That’s why we are focused on both aspects of service.

In the first half of the year, we had several IT outages that interrupted your business operations. To better respond to unplanned outages and provide greater visibility, we have implemented proactive control measures and continuous improvement activities to monitor and manage system performance. As we continue to optimize technology-related releases, we are doing everything we can to minimize unexpected impacts to your business.

Our IT team is working with our technology partners to introduce alerts and improve response time when an issue is identified, assessed and actioned. We’re also committed to sharing details with customers in an easy-to-access Service Alert status page on canadapost.ca for both unplanned and planned outages.

When it comes to delivery, we know your business depends on us to consistently reach every address, on time. Behind our reach is a robust delivery backbone including 22 processing plants, more than 21,000 vehicles, and over 400 depots nationwide. We’re built to serve Canada – providing reliable, comparable delivery experiences in both urban and rural locations. As customers like you start to come back to Canada Post, we are committed to earning your trust by meeting our delivery service guarantees, every time.

The road ahead

We know the past two years have not been easy. But over the coming weeks and months, we are excited to share new solutions, enhancements and pricing to meet your business needs and the expectations of your customers – and to give you a view into how we plan to move forward.

Our commitment to your business

As we work to renew the postal service and better serve the country, we are committed to restoring your confidence in us and demonstrating that you can rely on Canada Post as your delivery partner – the one you deserve.
