The enormously popular Magazines Canada Travelling Consultants Program (TCP) matches a magazine expert with a Magazines Canada member for a one-on-one consultation at the magazine’s office.
The program provides a great opportunity to meet an industry leader and get guidance and fresh perspectives on a specific area of your choice. And, you can leave the travelling to the consultant!

PLEASE NOTE: Funding has not yet been confirmed for the TCP. Once the funding is confirmed, staff will evaluate all the applications, match experts up with magazines and roll out the program.

What is the Travelling Consultants Program?
The Magazines Canada Travelling Consultants Program (TCP) matches magazine experts with Magazines Canada members across the country for exclusive, full day, one-on-one consultations in your office.
My magazine is not a Magazines Canada member. Can I sign up?
No—only Magazines Canada members in good standing can participate.
How does the program work?
After filling out and submitting your application form with a description of what you’d like covered, we’ll review our roster of consultants find the best match. The consultant will then contact you to elicit more details about what you’d like covered and to set up a date for the consultation, which must take place by the end of February 2017. Within two weeks of the consult, you must submit a completed evaluation form.
How much does the program cost?
The program cost is $350, and is free for Canada Council-funded titles.
Can I choose my own consultant?
Our staff matches the consultants with the magazines, which is a program requirement. However, if you would like to request a particular consultant, we’ll consider your choice.
How many people should attend?
Consultations are most effective in a small group setting and generally consist of key staff responsible for the topic under review. Generally two or three people attend; we recommend no more than 10.
What topic can I choose?
Topics include advertising, brand extensions, circulation, design, editorial administration, financial management, fundraising, governance, grant writing, human resources, production, web content and web development.
If I have other magazines, can employees sit in on the consultation?
No. Each consultation is customized to the magazine. In-depth advanced preparation goes into a consultation with a given magazine. If you wish to have a consultation with 2 or more publications in attendance, then we suggest you apply for a Publishers Consultation. A Publishers Consultation costs $350 per participating magazine and requires that each participating member magazine completes a pre-survey.
Why is there only one a year?
The TCP is an annual program supported by the Canada Council and the Canada Magazine Fund through the Department of Canadian Heritage. Only a limited number of consultations, based on available funding, take place each fiscal year.
