For Interested Publishers
National Paid Internship Program
Magazines Canada’s National Paid Internship Program offers participating publishers funding to reimburse 50% of the salary and payroll benefit expenses for a full-time internship position of up to six months. All Magazines Canada member magazines in good standing are eligible to apply for a paid intern through this program.
Ten subsidized paid internships are available in 2019. Each internship is defined as an up-to-six-month contract position (40 hours per week) with a start date between April and August 15, 2019 and an end date between October and February 15, 2020.
There is a limit of one intern per magazine. Two small magazines (annual print circulation of up to 5,000 copies) can submit a joint application for a shared internship position, as long as each magazine has at least one paid full-time employee to supervise the intern.
How to Apply:
Applications are evaluated on the publisher’s ability to support the objectives of the National Paid Internship Program. Magazines Canada will also fulfill the following criteria in the overall selection of the 2019 cohort of publishers:
- Diversity of geographic regions across Canada.
- French-language and English-language publishers.
- Inclusion of small publishers, defined as having an annual print circulation of up to 5,000 copies.

Paid Internship Program for Ontario Magazines
If you are an Ontario-based magazine publisher interested in hiring a paid intern, you may be eligible for funding to cover 50% of the salary and payroll expenses for a four-month full-time contract position through Magazines Canada’s Paid Internship Program for Ontario Magazines. Magazines Canada members in good standing that publish an Ontario-based magazine are eligible to apply for a paid intern through this program.
Enrolment in the Paid Internship Program for Ontario Magazines is limited to 10 magazines, each hiring one paid intern for any consecutive four-month period that runs between July 2019 and February 28, 2020.
How to Apply:
Simply complete the application form and submit it to Magazines Canada any time during the enrollment period, beginning July 9, 2019 and ending when the 10 co-funded internships have been allocated. Applications will be assessed on a “first come, first served basis.” We encourage you to submit your application as early as possible to secure a place in the program and receive co-funding for a paid internship.
