Magazines Canada Paid Internship Programs
Magazines Canada’s paid internship programs are designed to connect Magazines Canada members with new, diverse, skilled talent, and to provide interns with the paid work experience, job training, mentorship and networking opportunities they need to build careers in the magazine sector.
Two programs are currently open for applications from interested publishers: The National Paid Internship Program, open to Magazines Canada members across the country; and the Paid Internship Program for Ontario Magazines, open to Magazines Canada members that publish an Ontario-based magazine. For Interested Publishers
National Paid Internship Program
Magazines Canada’s National Paid Internship Program offers participating publishers funding to reimburse 50% of the salary and payroll benefit expenses for a full-time internship position of up to six months. All Magazines Canada member magazines in good standing are eligible to apply for a paid intern through this program.
Ten subsidized paid internships are available in 2019. Each internship is defined as an up-to-six-month contract position (40 hours per week) with a start date between April and August 15, 2019 and an end date between October and February 15, 2020.
There is a limit of one intern per magazine. Two small magazines (annual print circulation of up to 5,000 copies) can submit a joint application for a shared internship position, as long as each magazine has at least one paid full-time employee to supervise the intern.
How to Apply:
Applications are evaluated on the publisher’s ability to support the objectives of the National Paid Internship Program. Magazines Canada will also fulfill the following criteria in the overall selection of the 2019 cohort of publishers:
- Diversity of geographic regions across Canada.
- French-language and English-language publishers.
- Inclusion of small publishers, defined as having an annual print circulation of up to 5,000 copies.
