With a new year comes a new season of events, courses and awards programs to boost your skills and celebrate your achievements! Here are some of the magazine media dates on our radar for this month:

January 15

Deadline: 41st National Magazine Awards
The National Magazine Awards recognize excellence in content creation of Canadian print and digital publications. There are 29 awards categories this year, including 10 categories from the former Magazine Grands Prix program. The early bird deadline to enter the 2018 NMAs is January 15; the final submissions deadline is January 22.

January 22 & 23

Business Media Leadership Summit
Kingbridge Conference Centre, 12750 Jane St., King City ON
The only Canadian event for senior business media executives. Leaders from across Canada’s business media spectrum gather to share their experiences, learn from each other and capture the essentials required for success in today’s B2B environment. This year’s keynote speaker is Paul Andrews, Chief Revenue Officer of PennWell.

January 27

Digital Media at the Crossroads (DM@X)
University of Toronto, Toronto ON
Focused on the future of content in digital media, the one-day DM@X conference is happening in Toronto at U of T on Saturday, January 27. Magazines Canada members can register at an exclusive reduced rate! (More info.) Following a review of revenues, employment and future trends in each sector of the digital media universe in Canada, individual panels will address challenges and action plans for Canadian production in the audiovisual, music and publishing sectors.

January 29

CMA Certificate Courses
The Canadian Marketing Association (CMA) begins its winter 2018 term of online certificate courses on January 29, including Digital Analytics, Digital Marketing, Digital Marketing Strategy, Direct Response Marketing and Integrated Branding. Courses are held online and count towards CMA’s certified marketing specialist designation.

AMPA Seminar: Shooting and Editing Video on Your iPhone

The Alberta Magazine Publishers Association (AMPA) hosts a full-day, hands-on workshop about making short videos for social media. Journalism professor and trainer Sue Newhook will walk participants through Video 101 for iPhone: shooting, editing and basic livestreaming.
