Magazines Canada Announces New Executive Director & Toronto Office Sub-lease

We hope you have been enjoying your summer so far. Magazines Canada has been hard at work on a variety of important business that will impact the organization for years to come. Thank you for your patience as we have been working to finalize these developments over the past few months.

Meet Kim Coles

Magazines Canada is pleased to announce we have filled the position of Executive Director. After careful consideration, we are excited to welcome Kim Coles to our team. Kim will officially start full-time Tuesday September 6, 2022. For more background on Kim, please check out her bio below:

With over 22 years working with the Federal Public Sector and the non-profit world, Kim has gained the reputation as being the “go to person” or “fixer” in both her professional and personal life.  She loves hearing people’s stories, dreams, & goals and empowering them to the use innovative problem-solving approaches to obtain their objectives.  Kim is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) with the Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE).  She specializes in working with small organizations to not only stabilize and modernize operations to meet current and future challenges but positions them to “hit above their weight” to impact positive change for their membership and society.

Her strong interpersonal and negotiation skills have allowed Kim to persuade political decision makers to provide close to 1 million dollars in compensation to a membership and organization negatively impacted by the Federal Public Service Phoenix pay system.  Along with negotiating an additional 30% benefits package for a membership group being transferred from the Federal Public to the Quebec Provincial sector.  Kim is honoured to have been involved with past successful campaigns and lobbying efforts that motivated federal members of parliament to reopen nine Veterans Affairs district offices and hire over 200 additional resources to provide much needed programs and services to our country’s veterans.

Despite all these successes, Kim still struggles with making a good cup of “Joe” from her coffee maker, but nevertheless is determined to achieve this goal in the future.  After 15 years in Ottawa, she moved back to work remotely from her beautiful home province of PEI in 2021.  During her downtime, Kim can be found golfing or walking the beaches and countryside trails with her trusty sidekick, Harley, a pug X shih tzu, who regularly tries to be heard during videocalls.

Magazines Canada’s Toronto Office Sub-Lease Finalized

We are happy to announce we have found a tenant to take over our lease at 555 Richmond Street in Toronto. Our neighbours have decided to expand their office space and will officially take over mid-August. All Magazines Canada staff will be working from home remotely. This will free up a large portion of our budget to be utilized towards member support and professional development. Updates for the official mailing address of the organization will be forthcoming.
