If the spring rain is getting you down, small-press literary magazines are here to cure your blues.
This April 7–21, Magazines Canada members The Feathertale Review, Broken Pencil, CAROUSEL, Taddle Creek and Poetry is Dead are taking part in LitBang!, an annual pop-up store event in Toronto. This year’s proves to be incredibly exciting: copies of past issues and books are available for the literary-minded, while those hoping to bring some goods home can enjoy limited-edition art, posters, buttons, tote bags, and other merchandise on display.
The store, located at 982 Queen Street West, is open 1–7pm Tuesday through Friday and 11am–5pm Saturday through Sunday. Those who find sudden inspiration can also take writing breaks at the in-store writer’s workspace and café. It is also a family-friendly space as a children’s literature section has been added.
LitBang! is full of activities aimed at bringing a culturally-inclined community together. A launch party for The Feathertale Review No. 18 will take place on April 13, with the launch party for CAROUSEL 38 following on April 19. If you’re looking for something to do, Broken Pencil will be hosting a drop-in zine-making party on April 22. There will also be a social media for artists workshop on April 25 and more events to be announced. Signing up for The Feathertale Review‘s newsletter will offer the opportunity to “score an invite” to one of these events.
