The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport has launched the Government of Ontario’s first ever Culture Strategy, intended to articulate the role culture plays in promoting individual and community well-being across Ontario. The Cultural Strategy was launched on July 20 by Ontario’s new Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Eleanor McMahon.
The Culture Strategy has been in development since the fall of 2015, when the government held town halls and conversations across the province. The government also worked with a Culture Advisory Group, comprised of leaders in culture from across the province.
The Culture Strategy sets out four broad goals to guide the government’s support for culture over the next five years. The goals are:
- Promote cultural engagement and inclusion
- Strengthen culture in communities
- Fuel the creative economy
- Promote the value of the arts throughout government
Magazines Canada works actively with our Ontario government and arts-funding partners, including the Ministry, the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC), and the Ontario Arts Council (OAC). We will continue to monitor the implementation of the Culture Strategy and seek ways for the province’s magazine media sector to drive value to and derive benefit from the strategy.
