At our annual general meeting on June 13, 2017, members elected Scott Jamieson Chair of our national magazine association for the next two years. Scott is group publisher and director of content and engagement at Annex Business Media. He succeeds Past Chair Douglas Knight, outgoing president of St. Joseph Media. Read more.

Earlier this year, we started a conversation about how magazines can continue to attract new, diverse, skilled talent. The results of that research are now available as we report on the feasibility of a paid internship program for the magazine industry. Based on the study’s findings, we plan to launch a pilot program in early 2018. Read more.

Heritage Report on Media and Local Communities
The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage has released its long-awaited report on media and local communities, called “Disruption: Change and Churning in Canada’s Media Landscape.” It is the outcome of a study that began in February 2016, heard from 131 witnesses and received many written briefs. CASL Provision for Private Lawsuits Delayed Indefinitely
Your organization still needs to be fully CASL compliant by July 1, but the government recently announced that the law’s provision for private right to action has been suspended. This provision would have allowed for lawsuits against individuals and organizations for alleged CASL violations. Read more.
