Magazines + Sponsored Content: Frontier Takes a New Approach to Native Advertising

We’re taking a closer look at sponsored content in a new magBlast series that focuses on specific magazine case studies. As the opportunities for magazines to collaborate with brands become more prevalent, so too does the enthusiasm for partnerships—brands are looking for ways to tap into a magazine brand’s dedicated and attentive audience, while magazines can use the funds to create new, engaging content.

In the first episode, Doug Kelly, Publisher and Managing Director of Strategic Content Labs at St. Joseph Media, discussed Toronto Life‘s partnership with Kijiji.

In the second episode of this series, we speak to Paddy Harrington, Founder of Frontier Magazine, about their approach to native advertising. Rather than having the traditional pages of advertising found in most magazines, Frontier works with advertisers on creating a page or two of content that fits in seamlessly with the magazine’s design and aesthetic. Federal Pre-Budget Submission

Every year, the Standing Committee on Finance holds pre-budget consultations where it asks Canadians to tell the federal government what measures they’d like to see the budget for the coming year address. Magazines Canada recommended that the federal government renew and strengthen the Canada Periodical Fund, that it invest in career training initiatives for Canadian magazine media, and that it adopt certain recommendations of the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage in its recent report on the media and local communities.
