Earlier this spring, the Canada Council for the Arts posted granting deadlines for the 2019–20 fiscal year at canadacouncil.ca/funding/grants/deadlines.
Upcoming Supporting Artistic Practice deadlines for arts and literary magazine publishers and publishing organizations include:
- Support Organizations: October 2, 2019
- Sector Innovation and Development: April 17, 2019 and October 30, 2019
- Literary Publishing Projects: April 17, 2019
- Professional Development for Arts Professionals: at any time before the start date of your project
Of Special Note: Period covered by grants and changes to guidelines
Of note for core grant applications (multi-year grants that cover a broad array of expenditures): The upcoming application deadline is for a four-year cycle, and will cover fiscal years 2020–21, 2021–22, 2022–23 and 2023–24. In general, plans for year 1 and year 2 of a core grant should be more detailed, plans for year 3 and year 4 can be more broad. The Canada Council also notes that there will be minor modifications to the guidelines; forms will be available in early June 2019 and should be used for finalizing your grant application. Magazines Canada will monitor closely and will alert members as soon as the modified guidelines and forms are available on the Canada Council website.
Also of Special Note: Online information sessions you’ll want to attend
The Canada Council will host a series of online information sessions by Webex in late spring/early summer to provide additional information regarding core grant components. If you are interested in attending, Canada Council recommends that you register as soon as possible for these sessions once you receive an invitation. Again, Magazines Canada will monitor and will alert members as soon as the dates for these online sessions are announced.
