Invest in the future of our industry—apply to host a Magazine Grands Prix Fellow!
The Canadian Magazine Awards / Grands prix du magazine, or Magazine Grands Prix, is a new awards program celebrating the best of Canada’s magazine media. As part of the awards’ commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity, the Magazine Grands Prix have also introduced a paid fellowship to support emerging magazine creators.
The Fellowship will support a Canadian journalist, student or graduate as they work on stories that explore issues that matter to our country. Fellows will learn from lead mentors at a host publication, and gain valuable experience in the magazine business. The inaugural theme for the 2017 Fellowship is Indigenous Issues.
We are currently accepting expressions of interest from Magazines Canada members to host the 2017 Magazine Grands Prix Fellow.
The submission deadline is Wednesday, March 15.
Please note: We wanted to give Magazines Canada members the first opportunity to apply for this prestigious partnership, but there will be a general call for host magazines on February 28.
The Fellowship is a key way that this new award will invest in the future of the sector, and our membership has previously expressed interest in helping a new generation of magazine creators gain work experience, broaden their professional network and forge contacts in our industry.
The Fellow, awarded April 27, 2017, will choose their host magazine from the eligible expressions of interest. So don’t hold back in pitching the benefits of working for your magazine! Convince a new star to work at your title!
Key Program Details
The Magazine Grands Prix will award one Fellowship in 2017. To provide as much flexibility as possible for both the Fellow and the host magazine, the start date and structure of the fellowship will be jointly determined by the Fellow and host magazine, with the only parameters being a duration of four- to six-months. A Fellow’s stipend is covered by the Magazine Grand Prix Fellowship program and includes a contribution from the host magazine.
About the Fellowship Program
Magazine Grands Prix Fellowships are open to Canadian journalists, landed immigrants, students and recent graduates. Fellows—working on-site or remotely—will learn from lead mentors at a host publication, and gain valuable experience in various areas of the magazine business. Fellowship topics will change each year to reflect major issues in the national conversation. The inaugural theme for 2017 is Indigenous Issues.
