On April 27, 2017, Canada’s magazine publishing community came together to celebrate the very best in Canadian magazine journalism and design. Here’s what you had to say at the very first Magazine Grands Prix fête:
“Canada has a huge tradition in publishing that’s tied to our capacity to talk about real things in a real way. Supporting the magazine industry is not just good politics, it’s also good cultural policy.”
Adam Vaughan, Member of Parliament Spadina-Fort York
“We need these stories. We need to see ourselves reflected. And we need the industry to shine in the world. Without these written words, these pictures, these illustrations, we would not be describing what it is to live in Canada now. We are writing now what will be history tomorrow.”
Carole Beaulieu, strategic advisor at MishMash Media and recipient of the Editor Grand Prix
“It was a thrill to be among these amazing nominees, these other magazines that we admire so much.”
Jennifer Varkonyi, publisher of Maisonneuve
“The industry is vibrant and continuing!”
Robert Goyette, past chair of Magazines Canada and chair of the Reader’s Digest Foundation
More than 350 Canadian magazine creators, editors and publishers attended the Magazine Grands Prix awards fête at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto. We were thrilled to host this community of creative people, and to recognize originality, excellence and impact in diverse Canadian magazine content, from magazines large and small; niche, specialty and general interest; local, regional and national.
